1.
What is the project, How many
fields, When did it start?
The project was conceived in
1990 after Jon White, a VYSL
soccer coach attended a weekend
tournament at Cherry Island in
Sacramento. Mr. White approached
the city of Vacaville in 1992
regarding the feasibility of a
site like Cherry Island in
Vacaville. With the City’s
approval Mr. White asked C.Y.S.A.
North to consider the Vacaville
site for a ten field regional
soccer facility. Three other
Cities had requested
consideration for the regional
facility. The City of Vacaville
site was selected over the other
three cities but C.Y.S.A. North
later decided not to fund the
project because the expansive
soil found at the site did not
meet their requirements. At that
point Jon White, with the
support of the Vacaville Youth
Soccer League and approval from
the City of Vacaville, decided
to proceed with a revised soccer
field project. Construction
began in the fall of 1998.
The project consists of 4
initial soccer fields (ready for
use in the fall of 2000) with
plans for 5 more fields in the
future. The time schedule for
the future fields will depend on
fundraising. In addition to the
9 fields there are plans for a
building (or buildings) which
will house the restrooms,
concession stand, meeting room,
soccer shop, and maintenance
garage. A portion of the
building structure will be
constructed prior to the
additional 5 fields.

Where are the fields located ?
The new soccer complex is
located just North of the
Centennial Baseball fields on
Browns Valley Parkway. The
extension of Allison Parkway,
north of Interstate 80, will
cross Browns Valley Parkway and
end at the soccer complex.

3.
What has happened so far, and
when will the project be
completed ?
The drainage system is installed
for the entire site, except for
the 2 southern fields. The 2
northern fields have the drains
and sprinklers installed as well
as the sand base. The southern
field drains and the sprinklers
for the turf area surrounding
all the fields will be completed
in the spring. Then the sand
base for the southern fields
will be spread and grass will be
planted. Ideally, there will be
a grand opening in the fall of
2000.

Who
owns the land ?
The City of Vacaville owns the
land, but VYSL has a 25 year
lease on the land through a
m.o.u agreement.

5.
Who will have use of the fields
?
VYSL will use the fields most of
the time, but fields may be
leased or rented to adult and
other leagues to generate funds
for maintenance. If we can raise
approximately $500,000.00 for an
endowment to pay for
maintenance, then we can limit
the use to VYSL. All divisions
of the VYSL (metro, comp, and
rec) will share field time.

6.
Is there a need for volunteers
?
In the fall of 1999 Jon White
(the project coordinator) tried
to complete the installation of
drainage and sprinklers with
volunteer labor. The turnout of
volunteers was much lower than
expected and the project fell
behind schedule. In the future
major portions of work will be
contracted; however, volunteers
will be necessary and are always
welcome.

7.
What is the projected cost of
the project, how much do we have
so far ?
The current budget for 4 fields
and lights to allow night games
is approximately $500,000
($350,000 for fields and
$150,000 for lights). The total
raised to date is $330,000 plus
$75,000 in pending grants from
the City of Vacaville and the
United States Soccer Federation.
A budget for the building has
not been completed.
